Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. – Earlier this evening, the men's basketball team hosted the Setters of Pace University in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. The Panthers trailed by as much as 12 points midway through the second half and, despite a late rally to pull within three, fell to the Setters by a score of 56-49. The loss drops Adelphi to 2-6 and 1-3 in conference play, while Pace improves to 5-3 and evens their NE-10 record at 3-3.

The Panthers were led by freshman Anthony Libroia who scored 21 points on 9-12 shooting which included 3-5 from behind the arc. John Calarco was the only other Panther in double digits as he scored 10 points to compliment his five rebounds. Duane Morgan and Bradley Simpson led the team in rebounds with six each.

Pace was led by double-digit scoring efforts from Keon Williams and Denzel Primus-Darvish, with 18 and 10 respectively while the duo combined for 12 boards. The Setters shot .708 from the charity stripe, going 17-24.

The visitors opened the game on a 6-2 run over the first five minutes but the Panthers responded with nine unanswered points, capped by a jumper from Libroia, to lead at 11-6. The Setters countered with a 10-0 run of their own to reclaim the lead, 16-11 with seven minutes to go in the half.

Pace would continue to lead by five with four let, but the Panthers chipped away from there. Two baskets from Libroia and another from Morgan would lead the Panther charge as they pulled to within two at 22-20 with 2:55 remaining. The Setters would make three of four from the charity stripe as time dwindled and toke a 25-20 lead into halftime. Libroia led the Panthers throughout the half, as he scored 13 of the team's 20 total points.

The Setters extended their lead to double digits with a 6-0 scoring spurt over the first three minutes of the second half. Their lead ballooned to 15 on the strength of extending the scoring run to 12-2 over a total of seven minutes.

Points off of turnovers hurt the Panthers as Pace built a 44-28 lead with 9:43 to play. However, Adelphi cut the Setters' lead to single digits for the first time since the opening minutes of the half when Calarco sunk a layup to bring the score to 51-42 with 3:33 to go. With under three minutes to go, Simpson got the and-one on a hard foul. Before he went to the line to complete the three-point play, Pace's Jonathan Merceus was flagged for a technical foul, sending Calarco to the line. He made one of his two attempts. Finishing off the play he originally started, Simpson nailed his attempt to bring the Brown and within five at 51-46.

Morgan and Williams traded a free throw each, but Calarco's layup on the following possession made it a three point affair. However, Williams connected on a layup with 18 seconds remaining and Primus-Devonish hit a pair of foul shots to put the game on ice as Pace came away with the 56-49 victory.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, December 8th when they will travel to Syracuse, NY to take on the Le Moyne College Dolphins in a Northeast-10 Conference contest at 3pm.
