Box Score Oakdale, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's basketball team traveled to Oakdale, New York on Wednesday, December 19 to close out 2012 against former East Coast Conference rival Dowling College. The Panthers trailed by one at the half, 17-16 but out scored the Golden Lions 26-24 to pull out a 42-41 victory. With the win Adelphi improves to 4-8 overall, while the hosts fall to 2-6.
Bradley Simpson led the way for Adelphi with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while
Sean Crawford chipped in five points and six rebounds. In addition,
Chris Ranglin,
RJ Samuels,
John Calarco and
Anthony Libroia added four points each.
The first half was a defensive struggle, as Dowling led 9-8 with 9:30 left on the clock and would extend that lead to 15-11 at the 4:45 mark. However, a triple by Crawford just 25 seconds later pulled Adelphi back to within one, 15-14, which is was the same margin the Panthers trailed by at the half, 17-16.
Adelphi wasted little time in the second half, using a Simpson three-point play just 1:32 into the action to tie the contest at 19 all. From there the Panthers would extend the lead to seven points, 28-21 on a Calarco lay-up with 11:30 left on the clock. The Brown and Gold continued to hold a seven point edge with 38 ticks left when a late Dowling surge cut the margin to just one point. But, an
RJ Samuels rebound of a Libroia missed free throw sealed the victory for Adelphi.
The Panthers will return to the hardwood on Saturday, January 5 when they travel to Springfield, Massachusetts to take on American International College at 3:30 pm.
