Volleyball Set to Take on #6 LIU-Post in NCAA First Round Action

The Panthers have posted a 2-0 record over LIU-Post this season.

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University volleyball team will travel to West Haven, Connecticut on Thursday, November 29 for a noon meeting with LIU-Post in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II East Regional. The Panthers are the third seed in the field of eight, while the Pioneers were awarded the sixth seed. You can follow all the action live by clicking here.

Adelphi enters the clash with an overall record of 24-11, the sixth straight season that the Panthers have recorded 20 wins or more under the direction of Head Coach Danielle MacKnight. The Brown and Gold will be led by AVCA All-Region selection sophomore Kaitlyn DeStefano, who led the Northeast-10 in total blocks, solo blocks and block assists this season, while also finishing among the top-five in total kills. Graduate student Bianca Hernandez was also honored by the AVCA and will anchor the back row after posting the third most digs in the NE-10 and placing fourth in aces.

Adding impressive depth to the Panthers are senior Chelsea Overholt, who was a first-team All-Northeast-10 selection and has posted impressive numbers since returning from injury and junior setter Katie Bryson, who was an All-Region and All-Conference honoree while finishing among the top-five in the conference in total assists and assists per set.

The Panthers and Pioneers have faced off twice this season, with Adelphi getting the better end of the result both times. The first meeting was at the Millersville Tournament on September 1 and the Brown and Gold cruised to a 3-0 win, 25-21, 25-20 and 25-18. The second time these two teams met was at LIU-Post on September 15 picked up another 3-0 victory, 25-19, 25-21 and 25-20.

Adelphi has an all-time record of 10-15 against the Pioneers, but have won the last six games against LIU-Post. The last time the Panthers dropped a game to the the Pioneers was on November 4, 2008 when Adelphi dropped a 3-1 decision in Garden City. The Brown and Gold also bring a record of 2-5 in NCAA action into West Haven, Connecticut and have appeared in two straight NCAA East Regional Semifinals.
