Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's basketball team traveled to Albany, New York to continue their Northeast-10 Conference action at The College of St. Rose on Wednesday, November 28. The Panthers trailed 39-27 at the half, but cut the lead to just six, 69-63 late in the second half, before falling 84-68. With the loss Adelphi falls to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the NE-10, while St. Rose improves to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in conference action.
Chris Ranglin and
Bradley Simpson led Adelphi on the offense end with 10 points each, while
Anthony Libroia chipped in nine points. Both Libroia and Ranglin pulled down five misses, while adding three and four assists apiece to the Panther effort.
Adelphi trailed by 12 points, 39-27at the break and were down by as many as 19, 61-42, midway through the second half after a Saint Rose jumper in the paint.
However, the Panthers refused to go away and proceeded to go on a 21-8 run that made it a six point, 69-63, ballgame with 2:33 remaining. Labroia ignited the spurt with a triple and senior guard
RJ Samuels capped it by finishing inside. But, the Golden Knights went 11-for-11 from the foul line down the stretch to remove any chance of an Adelphi comeback and the Brown and Gold were handed a 84-68 loss.
Adelphi was out shot for from the field, 54.2% to 46.4% and from the free throw line, 84.8% to 58.8% and also from beyond the arc as the Golden Knights held a 50% to 35.3% advantage. Saint Rose also held a 31-29 edge on the boards, while Adelphi came away with a win in the assists column, 21-11.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, December 1 when they welcome Assumption College into the Center for Recreation and Sports at 3:30 pm.
