Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team powered past Mercy College 88-65 in non-conference action on Sunday, led by junior
Sade Jackson's third consective triple double. The Panthers saw four players score in double figures and a pair with 20-plus points on their way to improving to 2-2 overall. With the loss, the Mavericks drop to 0-3 on the season.
The dominant victory marks the most points scored in a game for Adelphi since beating Concordia 100-50 on Feb. 25, 2009. Jackson's trifecta of double-digits came in the form of 10 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, which overshadowed Jackson's game-high five steals. Sophomore
Kelly Mannix paced the offensive showcase with a career-high 27 points on 10-of-20 shooting from the floor that saw the defending ECAC Division II Rookie of the Year drain six three-pointers. Junior
Jessica Kitrys dumped in 22 points - one shy of her career best - to go with six rebounds and five blocked shots. Junior
Shannon Flynn rounded out the Panthers in double figures by notching 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
For Mercy, Aysha Williams led her squad with 21 points and seven rebounds. Amber Harrison contributed 14 points off the bench, while Shaniqua Lewis and MarQuesha Moore each scored 10 points.
The hosts held a 40-39 lead after the first half on the strength of 46.4 percent shooting from the floor, eventually erasing an Adelphi lead that was a big as five points midway through the period. The Panthers caught fire just in time to see the Mavericks' shooting go cold, however, and the visitors connected on 19-of-35 shots in the second half to take the 23-point victory.
Mercy shot just 29.73 percent from the field in the second half, and fell victim to a 12-0 swing by the Panthers that set the tone for the remainder of the game.
Adelphi led by as many as 25 points late in the half, capped by a three-point play that saw Mannix drain her 27th point on a free throw to make it 86-61 with 1:15 to play.
The Panthers return to Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday when they head to the College of Saint Rose for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
