Box Score West Haven, CT - The #2 seeded Adelphi University volleyball team traveled to West Haven, Connecticut on Friday, November 16 to take on #6 Pace University in the semifinals for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on the campus of the University of New Haven.  Adelphi was able to hold off a gritty Pace team in four games, 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 25-16, 25-20) and earned a spot in the Northeast-10 Championship game for the second year in a row, improving to 24-10 overall.

Chelsea Overholt and Kaitlin DeStefano led the Panther offense with 15 and 12 kills each, while Emily Dorko also reached double figures with 10. Katie Bryson had the offense running smooth with 44 assists, while Bree Popham led the Panthers with 19 digs and 2011 Northeast-10 Tournament MVP Bianca Hernandez had 17. In addition, Overholt and Alexandra Kahen found themselves finishing with double digit digs with 16 and 10 respectively.

The Panthers pushed out to a 17-7 lead in the first set, but the Setters went on a 9-1 run, pulling to within three points, 18-16. However, two Overholt kills bookended a 7-2 game ending run that gave the Brown and Gold a 1-0 cushion.

The second game opened in a much different manner then the first and was close in the early going.  Adelphi and Pace continued to play tight and Setter kill knotted up the action at 15 and sparked what would be a 11-2 game ending run that saw Pace claim a 25-17 victory and tie the contest up at one all.

Adelphi opened the third game with a quick 4-2 spurt, that included kills from DeStefano and Rico, but could not shake the Setters and lead buy just two at the midway point, 15-13. Then back-to-back kills from DeStefano and Overholt sent the Panthers on a 10-3 run that ended with another Overholt smash and put the Brown and Gold just one win away from a match victory, 25-16.

The Brown and Gold came out motivated in game four, jumping on the Setters to the tune of 12-4. However, Pace showed fight, ripping off four straight points to cut the margin to 12-8. Another Adelphi run, this time a 6-0 effort capped by a Dorko kill gave the Panthers what should have been a comfortable 18-10 lead. But, another Pace rush left the Setters four back at 22-18 when a Pace service error and a Rico kill sealed the triumph for Adelphi, 25-20.

The Panthers will return to West Haven, Connecticut on Saturday, November 17 for a 5:00 pm match-up with the top seeded University of New Haven Chargers. Follow all the action live at www.northeast10.tv.
