Purchase, N.Y. - The Adelphi University swim team traveled to Purchase, New York on Thursday, October 25 to open the 2012-13 season at SUNY Purchase. The Panthers combined for 14 individual wins and three relay wins as both teams came away with victories. The women topped Purchase, 107-96, while the men took care of business to the tune of 117-73.
Gabrielle Terzano was a double winner for the women, taking home wins in the 1000 yard freestyle and the 100 yard butterfly with clockings of 12:18.44 and 1:08.18, while
Heather Miller opened her Adelphi career with wins in the 200 yard freestyle (2:08.82) and the 100 yard backstroke (1:05.62).
Samantha Spacone also collected an individual win, out pacing the field in the 100 yard freestyle wth a time of 58.19.
Brittany Stanford helped Adelphi sweep the distance events, adding a win in the 500 yard freestyle to Terzano's 1000 yard freestyle victory, posting a time of 5:39.51. Stanford, Terzano and Spacone were joined by
Ana Galesic in the 200 yard freestyle relay as the Panthers capped the meet with a win in a time of 1:47.18.
The men were led by
William Gerard and
Zachary Mazur, who were both awarded two individual wins. Gerard captured first in the 200 yard freestyle (2:01.83) and the 100 yard freestyle (56.86), while Mazur was tops in the 200 yard individual medley (2:16.08) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:12.36).
Adelphi also got contributions from
Chad Ankers,
Kevin Rohle,
Ryan Walpole and
Michael Mayer who got out of the water first in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:55), the 50 yard freestyle (24.75), the 100 yard butterfly (1:05.20) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:09.98).
Jalen Jennings joined Mayer, Ankers and Mazur to put Adelphi on top in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:48.68, while Rohle, Jennings, Walpole and Mayer teamed to close out the meet with a win in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:39.26).
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, October 27 when they play host to Post University at 1:00 pm in Woodruff Hall in Garden City, New York.
