Box Score
New Haven, Conn. - The Adelphi University field hockey team won its fourth straight game, taking a 3-2 victory at Southern Connecticut State in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday. A tightly contested first half that saw the score stand at 1-1 after 32 minutes gave way to a late first period goal by the Panthers, and another score midway through the second helped Adelphi improve to 4-8 overall and 3-1 in NE-10 play. The Owls drop to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in the league with the loss.
Freshman
Kristen Bagley potted her first collegiate goal to spark an early Adelphi lead. At the 4:36 point, Bagley tipped in a pass from junior
Jamie Ackerman to make it 1-0, but SCSU's Lauren Anderson tallied the equalizer a few minutes later with a shot that squeeked between the pads of Adelphi goalie
Kristine Puzio.
Senior
Cassie Cabral flushed a rebound in the 32nd minute to score her team-leading seventh goal of the season, and Adelphi's 2-1 lead would stand well into the second half despite the Owls controlling the game offensively. A 22-10 shot advantage for SCSU in the second half would prove irrelevant, as senior
Erin Grekin scored what proved to be the deciding goal on a shot from the middle of the circle on an assist by freshman
Molly Cuevas in the 64th minute.
The Owls finally converted one of their many attacks on net when Sarah Cebry deposited a last-second goal after a penalty corner, but it would be too little too late as the scoreboard read 3-2 in favor of the Panthers as time expired.
Puzio, the defending NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Week, made 14 saves to pick of her fourth win of the season. For the Owls, Audrey Dolloff made six saves in the losing effort.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday when they host Saint Anselm College for an NE-10 contest at 1 p.m.
