Box Score Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The Adelphi University volleyball team traveled just a few miles down the road to take on the Molloy College Lions for the second time this season on Thursday, October 11. The Panthers were pushed to the limit by the Lions, but came out on top, 3-2 (22-25, 25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 15-11) and with the win Adelphi rises to 13-8 overall, while Molloy falls to 6-13.
Chelsea Overholt paced the Panther attack with 18 kills, while
Samantha Rico and
Kaitlyn DeStefano added 17 each, with all three hitting .237 or better.
Katie Bryson managed the Adelphi offense smoothly, collecting a game-high 56 assists, while
Bianca Hernandez led all players with 21 digs and Overholt had 13.
The Panthers had 20 kills in game one, while Molloy countered with just 11, but made only one error, as Adelphi dropped the first set, 25-22. The Brown and Gold evened the contest at one game apiece with a 25-20 victory in the second game, courtesy of 15 kills and an attack percentage of .312 and followed that up with a 25-22 win in the third set to take a 2-1 lead in the best of five match.
Molloy managed to rally in the fourth game, committing just three errors to the Panthers eight, knotting the contest at two all with a 25-23 triumph. However, in the fifth and final game the Brown and Gold proved too much for Molloy, as Adelphi picked up the win, 15-11 behind nine kills in the final set.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, October 13 when they travel to Syracuse, New York for a 1:00 pm contest with Northeast-10 foe LeMoyne College.
