Box Score
Garden City, N.Y. – Earlier this evening, the field hockey squad played host to the #5 Riverhawks of UMass Lowell in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. After falling behind 3-0 at the half, Adelphi was unable to bridge the gap as the visitors added one more goal in the second while holding the Panthers at bay. With the 4-0 loss, the Brown and Gold move to 6-10, 4-3 NE-10 while the Riverhawks advance to 12-2, 7-1 NE-10.
UMass Lowell jumped out to the early lead on a play set up by Sarah Wilcox just three ticks shy of the five minute mark. Wilcox sent in a pass through traffic and hooked up with teammate Rachel McCarthy for the one-time that found the back of the net.
McCarthy then helped her team further their lead by assisting on the next two goals before each side split for intermission. Vanessa Kent and Jenna Freitas were each credited with the scores and forced Adelphi to play the second half down 3-0.
The duo of McCarthy and Wilcox struck again at the 63:07 mark for the game's fourth goal.
Adelphi managed just four total shots which were taken by Jaime Ackerman,
Molly Cuevas,
Cassie Cabral and
Alyssa Conklin. Ackerman was the only one whose was on goal but was stopped with a save by UMass Lowell keeper Melanie Hopkins.
On the defensive end, despite registering 14 saves on the night,
Kristine Puzio suffered the loss.
Briana Rubenstein made one defensive stop as well.
UMass Lowell had 14 corner opportunities to Adelphi's two.
The Panthers are back in action on Sunday, October 14 when they travel up to North Easton, MA to take on the Skyhawks of Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 showdown at 1 pm.
