Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University swim team hosted the College of St. Rose on Saturday, January 21 in their home and dual meet finale. The men won nine events to capture a 64-58 victory, while the women won five events, but were edged out, 64-58. With the win the men close out the dual meet season, 9-1, while the women end with a record of 7-3.
The women were led by
Gabrielle Terzano and
Brittany Stanford, who won two events each. Terzano came away with wins in the 100 and 200 yard butterfly, thanks to times of 1:06.35 and 2:28.19, while Stanford dominated the 200 yard breaststroke (2:40.64) and the 200 yard individual medley (2:23.73). The only other Panther to pick up a victory was
Ana Galesic in the 100 yard freestyle, with a time of 58.05.
Corey McKee paced the men, winning three individual events, while
Zach Terzano and
Kyle Jones both took home two victories. McKee out touched the field in the 100 yard backstroke (55.01), 200 yard backstroke (2:00.86) and the 100 yard butterfly (52.91). He also teamed up with Terzano, Jones and
Steven Gromling to post a win in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:38.89.
Terzano turned in strong performances in the 100 and 200 yard freestyle, using times of 49.48 and 1:48.48 to pick up wins, while Jones managed to complete the 200 yard breaststroke (2:18.64) and the 200 yard individual medley (2:02.20) first. Gromling was the only other swimmer on the men's side to come away with a win, taking first in the 100 yard breaststroke with a clocking of 1:01.02.
The Panthers will return to action on February 2 when they travel to Southern Connecticut State University to compete in the Northeast-10 Championships.
