Garden City, N.Y. - The second-seeded Adelphi University baseball team, who was 2-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament, was named Tournament Champions today when the game against Franklin Pierce University was called due to unplayable field conditions at SUNY Old Westbury.
The Panthers won their first two games of the tournament behind two complete game pitching performances from seniors Robert Nixon (Day One) and Mike Scudero (Day Two).
Scudero joined graduate student Omar Velazquez and sophomore Anthony Zarrella on the All-Championship Team. Velazquez was also named Tournament Most Valuable Player as he scored three runs, stole three bases, had one RBI, and collected two hits in the two Panther wins.
Adelphi, who now receives the automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament, will wait to see who they will face first in the East Regional tonight at 10:00 p.m. ET on the DII Selection Show on ncaa.com.
The Panthers were last in the NCAA Tournament in 2009 after winning the East Coast Conference Championship where they fell to Dowling College, 1-0, in the Regional Championship game.
