The Adelphi University baseball team hosted the Hawks of St. Anselm College this afternoon in a league match-up. Adelphi cruised past St. Anselm for an 8-0 victory. The win improves Adelphi to 29-11-2 and 17-6-1 in the NE-10, while St. Anselm falls to 22-21 and 12-12.
For the Panthers, graduate student Omar Velazquez went 4-for-4 with two RBI and a home run, while sophomore Anthony Zarrella went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. Senior Jonathan Gonzalez threw a complete game, giving up one hit and striking out 10. 
It wasn't until the fifth inning when Adelphi broke the scoreless tie on an RBI double to left field from Velazquez. Adelphi would add two more runs in the next inning on RBI extra base hits from senior Richard McCarren and Zarrella.
After a Velazquez solo shot to left field in the seventh, the Panthers put up a four-spot in the bottom of the eighth inning. Zarrella would drive in the first run with an RBI triple to right field, his second of the game, while freshman Richard Mejia sent an RBI single to right center for the second run of the inning. 
Senior Trevor Thorstensen drove in the final two runs of the four-run inning with a two-run home run over the left field fence. 
For the Hawks, Matt Sucharewicz collected the lone hit going 1-for-3. Sean Hayden suffered the loss, giving up four earned runs in 6.2 innings of work.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, May 4, when they host cross-town rival Molloy College in their final regular season home game at 3:30 p.m.
