#1 Women's Lacrosse Tops Southern New Hampshire, Petersen Sets NCAA Single Season Points Mark

Manchester, NH - The Adelphi University women's lacrosse team closed out the regular season on Saturday, April 30 at Northeast-10 Conference foe Southern New Hampshire. The Panthers came home with a 24-3 victory and junior Claire Petersen set an NCAA Division II single season record for points. Adelphi wraps up the regular season with a spotless record of 16-0 overall and 12-0 in NE-10 play, capturing the NE-10 Regular Season Championship.

Petersen led all players with 12 points on four goals and eight assists, in the process she broke West Chester's Stephanie Kienle's NCAA Division II record for points in a season. Kienle had 143 points in 2008 and Petersen currently sits at 152 points with post season play remaining. In addition, Petersen's eight assists in the game give her 103 for the year, making Petersen the first Division II player to eclipse the 100 assist mark ever.

Erica Devito also continued her strong play, picking up seven points on six goals and one helper, while Marissa Mills had six points on two goals and four assists. Both Kaitlyn Carter and Elizabeth Fey chipped in five points as Carter had three goals and two assists and Fey produced four goals and one helper.

The defense was led by Jacqueline Williams, who had four of Adelphi's eight caused turnovers. Mills grabbed three ground balls, while Williams, Petersen Devito and Tara Gangarossa had two each. Demmianne Cook and Gangarossa led the team in draw's with three each.

Frankie Caridi remains unbeaten in net, collecting her 16th win of the season with six saves in 60 minutes of action.

Adelphi scored the game's first five goals, two from Petersen, before the hosts on the board 6:23 into the contest. The Panthers extended their lead to 10-1 before the Penmen scored again with 16:55 to go before intermission.

Southern New Hampshire added another goal with 10:15 left to make it a 12-3 game, but the Panthers scored five unanswered goals before halftime, two from Carter, to make it 17-3 at the break. Adelphi then scored seven times in the first 12 minutes of the second stanza, getting two goals each from Devito, Fey and Devan Crimi, to account for the final.

With the win Adelphi earned the top seed in the Northeast-10 Tournament and the right to host the NE-10 Final Four. The top seeded Panthers will take on the winner of the #4 vs. #5 play in game on Saturday, May 7 at 1:00 pm.
