Box Score

Easton, MA - The Adelphi University softball team finished up the second game of a rained out doubleheader on Friday, April 29 against Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts. The Skyhawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Adelphi knotted the action at two in the fifth before falling, 6-2. The loss snaps the Panthers nine game win streak and drops them to 25-21 overall and 17-9 in the NE-10, while Stonehill improves to 17-25 and 13-13 in the conference.

The Skyhawks opened the bottom of the first with a double and turned that into two runs three batters later with a two run home run to left field, 2-0. The following three innings were scoreless affairs as the Panthers continued to trail.

Adelphi showed life in the top of the fifth when Amy Ogden led off the frame with a single to center. After two Panther outs Shay Craig hit a rope over the wall in left center to knot the game at two apiece. The tie was short lived thanks to three straight Skyhawk two out hits in the bottom of the inning, which produced two runs and put Adelphi in a 4-2 hole.

The Panthers managed one hit in the final two innings and Stonehill tacked on two insurance runs to collect a 6-2 victory. Craig led the Panther offense, going 2-2 with two RBI and one run scored, while Jeanine Leo also produced two hits in the loss.

Katie Andrews was credited with the loss, throwing 5.2 innings, striking out six and scattering eight hits.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, April 30 when they play host to Northeast-10 leading Merrimack at noon in Garden City, New York.
