The Adelphi University baseball team traveled to take on the Setters of Pace University this afternoon in Pleasantville, N.Y. The Setters scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning on a squeeze bunt for the 1-0 victory. Pace improves to 14-23-1 and 6-14 in the NE-10, while Adelphi falls to 26-11-2 and 14-6-1.
For the Panthers, junior Jamie Liebowitz picked up the lone Adelphi hit going 1-for-2, while freshman Stephen Bove suffered the tough loss, giving up one run (unearned) in seven innings of work.
In the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs, Robert Horn put down a perfect squeeze bunt which scored Patrick Chaputian for the eventual game-winning run.
For the Setters, Michael Scarrieta threw a one-hitter in eight innings of work with five strikeouts and four walks. MacKenzie King came in the ninth inning and closed the door on Scarietta's performance with the save.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, April 30, when they host No. 7 Franklin Pierce University in a conference doubleheader at noon on Senior Day.
