Baseball Collects 14 Hits In 12-3 Victory Over Felician

The Adelphi University baseball team hosted the Golden Falcons of Felician College this afternoon on William J. Bonomo Memorial Field. Adelphi slugged out 14 hits for 12 runs for the 12-3 victory. Adelphi improves to 25-10-2, while Felician falls to 20-20.

For the Panthers, junior Justin Farnum went 3-for-5 with two RBI, while freshman Richard Mejia went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Junior Michael Carletti earned the win, giving up two runs and striking out six in six innings of work.

The Panthers first run came on the bottom of the first inning when Farnum drove and RBI single through the right side. In the bottom of the third, senior Richard McCarren scored from third base on a Felician throwing error.

In the Panther fourth, Adelphi broke the game wide open, scoring five runs on five hits. Junior Lucas Romeo would come around to score the first run on a Felician error, while classmate Craig Matteo drove in the next run with an RBI single. McCarren would then score on another defensive mishap from the Golden Falcons, while Farnum and Mejia drove in the final two runs of the inning with RBI singles.

Felician would get on the board in the top of the fifth inning with two RBI singles, cutting Adelphi's lead to five runs. Adelphi answered back with another five-run inning highlighted by an RBI double to left center from sophomore Anthony Zarrella.

In the seventh inning, Collin Martindale would send an RBI single into left field, scoring the Golden Falcons' third and final run.

For the Golden Falcons, Mike Farrell went 2-for-4, while Jimmy Simpson went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Chris Roskey suffered the loss, giving up seven runs (four earned) in 3.1 innings.

The Panthers return to action tomorrow, April 26, when they host the Setters of Pace University at 3:30 p.m.
