#1 Women's Lacrosse Bounces Bentley, 22-2

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's lacrosse team welcomed Bentley University to Garden City and Motamed Field on Saturday, April 23. The Panthers ripped off the first 22 goals in the Northeast-10 contest and remained unbeaten on "Senior Day" with a 22-2 victory. With the win Adelphi extends it's win streak to 14 and is 14-0 and 10-0 in the Northeast-10, while Bentley falls to 7-8 overall and 5-5 in the conference.

Both Claire Petersen and Erica Devito posted seven points for the Panthers, Petersen on three goals and four assists and Devito on four goals and three helpers. Adelphi also had three players score five points as Elizabeth Fey (4G, 1A), Kaitlyn Carter (3G, 2A) and Demmianne Cook (3G, 2A) combined for 10 goals and five assists.

"This is a great win for us coming off of a tough game against C.W. Post," Devito explained. "Back-to-back games is a scenario that we will face in both the Northeast-10 Tournament and the NCAA Final Four and we showed we can play two exceptional games in a row."

Defensively, both Jacqueline Williams and Mariel Wenzel had three caused turnovers, while Nicole Bass, Kristin Jones and Marissa Mills had two each. Fey grabbed a game high seven draw controls and Mills chipped in four, while Frankie Caridi corralled five ground balls and Williams and Cook had four each.

Caridi made six stops in net, including four in the second half to pick up her 14th win of the season and remain unblemished.

Adelphi scored four goals in the first 10 minutes of action, but then reeled off nine in the middle 10 minutes, including four from Fey, giving Adelphi a 13-0 edge with 11:12 on the clock. The Panthers added four more before intermission, two from Devito take a 17-0 lead into the half.

The Panthers got off to a hot start in the second, scoring three goals in the first 3:03 and added to more at 23:32 and 22:33 to put the game out of reach at 22-0.

Statistically it was all Adelphi, as the Panthers took more shots, 39-12, grabbed more ground balls, 36-26 and won more draws, 18-8.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, April 27 when they play host to New Haven in a Northeast-10 contest at 7:00 pm on Motamed Field.
