Baseball Ties No. 6 Southern Connecticut, 2-2

The Adelphi University baseball team traveled to New Haven, Conn. to take on the No. 6 Owls of Southern Connecticut State University. The Panthers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and SCSU eventually tied the game in the ninth which was then called due to darkness. Adelphi now stands at 22-10-2 and 11-5-1, while the Owls are 28-4-1 and 13-4-1.

For the Panthers, senior Richard McCarren went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a home run, while junior Justin Farnum finished 3-for-5. Senior Mike Scudero threw the first seven innings, striking out seven and giving up one run (unearned).

Adelphi struck first, in the top half of the third when McCarren sent a two-run shot over the right field fence for the early two-run lead.

Southern Connecticut would inch closer in the fourth when they scored a run on a Panther error with two outs. In the bottom of the ninth, Sam Greenberg delivered the game-tying single for the Owls, sending the game into extras.

Both teams held each other scoreless in extra innings and the game was called after the 12th inning due to darkness.

The Panthers return to action tomorrow, Friday, April 22, when they travel to Manchester, N.H. for a twinbill against Southern New Hampshire University at 1:00 p.m.
