The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team took on the Hawks of St. Anselm College this evening in Manchester, N.H. Adelphi cruised to a 14-6 victory to extend their win streak to seven. The Panthers improve to 7-1 and 3-0 in the NE-10, while St. Anselm remains without a win at 0-6.
For the Panthers, junior Shane Wynn led the way with two goals and three assists, while classmate Danny Blau registered two goals and two helpers. Fellow junior keeper Eric Jannsen stopped 15 shots for the victory.
Andrew Messner got the Hawks out to an early lead with an unassisted first period goal, but Blau and graduate student Tommy Susko answered with a goal each to give Adelphi a 2-1 lead after the first period.
Juniors Joe Vitale and Timothy Aiello scored the only two goals of the second period, which were both with less than a minute remaining.
The third period saw a lot of scoring with Adelphi finding the back of the six five times. The Panthers would score the first three goals of the period, only to have the Hawks answer back with two straight scores of their own.
The Panthers entered the the final period with a six-goal advantage at 10-4. Juniors Doug Quednau and Kieran Riegel opened the fourth with back-to-back unassisted scores to push their lead to eight, 12-4. Tyler Steinetz would answer back with a goal for the Hawks but Vitale and Wynn would counter with their 15th and 14th goals of the season, respectively.
For the Hawks, Steinetz and Messner each paced St. Anselm with two goals each. Pat Acone set aside 11 shots in the loss.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, April 9, when they host Merrimack College at 2:00 p.m.
