The seventh-ranked Adelphi University men's lacrosse team hosted the Greyhounds of Assumption College this afternoon on Motamed Field. The Panthers raced out to a 10-1 halftime lead and went on to win, 16-6. Adelphi improves to 9-1 and 5-0 in the NE-10, while Assumption drops to 7-5 and 3-4.
For the Panthers, graduate student Tommy Susko led the way with two goals and two assists, while four other Panthers scored two goals and had one helper each. Junior Eric Janssen stopped seven shots in 40 minutes between the pipes.
Adelphi got on the board early, a little more than two and a half minutes into the first period when junior Danny Blau found Susko for the score. After a score from sophomore Michael Rossi, Susko found Blau for the junior's first goal of the game and a 3-0 Adelphi lead.
Connor MacNeil would get Assumption an unassisted goal to make the score 3-1, only to have Rossi set up junior Joe Vitale for his first of the afternoon.
The second period was all Adelphi, as five different Panthers found the back of the net with junior Kieran Riegel scoring two goals in the period.
In the third period, junior Shane Wynn extended Adelphi's lead to ten with the assist coming from Susko. Assumption's John Murphy would then score back-to-back goals for the Greyhounds, getting them to within eight. Less than 30 seconds after Murphy's second goal, junior Doug Quednau scored in unassisted fashion, pushing the Panthers advantage to 12-3.
In the final period, the Panthers doubled up the Greyhounds, 4-2, with sophomore Connor McCann registering two of the four goals.
For the Greyhounds, Murphy scored three goals, while Will Langevin provided two goals and one assist. Scott Vogel set aside 16 shots in the loss.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, April 16, when they travel to Colchester, Vt. to take on the Purple Knights of St. Michael's College at 3:00 p.m.
