The Adelphi University men's tennis team hosted the Skyhawks of Stonehill College yesterday afternoon. Adelphi continued their match streak and bested Stonehill, 6-3. Adelphi improves to 8-8 and 6-2 in the NE-10, while Stonehill falls to 11-6.
Graduate student Sebastian Nieves and senior Anton Voynov led the double-winners for Adelphi as the region's seventh-ranked doubles team opened with an 8-2 win at No. 1. Nieves also rallied for a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 win over Stonehill senior Tim Fayed, ranked 12th regionally, at No. 1 singles, while Voynov picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win over senior Jonathan Burke at No. 2 singles.
Sophomore Gaetan Georges rounded out the double-winners for Adelphi with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles after teaming up with classmate Adrish Tewarie for an 8-6 triumph at second doubles.
Freshman Brett Armstrong was a double-winner for Stonehill, combining with Burke for an 8-5 win at third doubles. He also cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Adelphi senior Leonard Bruno at No. 6 singles to remain unbeaten in NE-10 play (7-0). Freshman Nick Hyzak also remained perfect in NE-10 play (9-0) with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Tewarie at No. 5.
The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, April 12, when they host American International College at 3:30 p.m.
