The Adelphi University baseball team hosted Nyack College this afternoon in a non-conference contest on William J. Bonomo Memorial Field. The Panthers scored one in the bottom of the first and it was all they needed en route to the 2-0 victory. Adelphi improves to 3-1, while falls to 0-2.
For the Panthers, junior Jamie Liebowitz went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored, while classmate Justin Farnum finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. Sophomore Dillon McNamara got the win, striking out four and not giving up a hit over four innings of work. Sophomore Jimmy Milani picked up the save, striking out three in 1.2 innings.
Adelphi got on the board in the bottom half of the first when senior Richard McCarren got things started with a triple to center field, and then came around to score on a Nyack throwing error.
The next Panther run came in the sixth inning when Farnum lined a single up the middle and plated Liebowitz who doubled the at-bat before.
The Panthers staff combined for 10 strikeouts, three walks, and just one hit. The lone Warriors' hit came in the top half of the eighth inning when Eric Roe reached on an infield single.
For the Warriors, Roe finished 1-for-3, while Wayne Davidson suffered the tough loss, giving up one earned run and striking out two in seven innings on the mound.
The Panthers return to action tomorrow, March 5, when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College in a non-conference doubleheader starting at noon.
