Garden City, N.Y. -
The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team hosted Dominican College earlier this afternoon in a non-conference contest. Junior attackers Joe Vitale and Kieran Riegel each collected four goals a piece to lead Adelphi to a 14-6 win. Adelphi improves to 6-1 overall, riding a six-game winning streak, as Dominican drops to 2-6 overall.
Vitale paced the Panthers' attack scoring two of his first four goals in the opening stanza. At the 11:36 mark, Vitale rifled a shot, 20-yards out giving Adelphi a 1-0 advantage after receiving a pass from junior Shane Wynn. Vitale would then find the back of the net at the 5:16 mark for a 2-0 Panthers' lead.
After Dominican scored with 2:44 remaining in the first, the Panthers scored the next five goals as they raced out to a 7-1 advantage. Vitale's third goal at the 13:23 mark of the second made the score, 5-1, and Wynn's goal at 11:40 in the second, gave Adelphi a 7-1 lead.
The Chargers fought back cutting an 8-2 deficit in half in the later stages of the first half and beginning of the second. Jesse Petersen scored an even strength goal to make it 8-5 in the third, however, the Panthers increased their lead back up to six off the sticks graduate student Tommy Susko and Vitale's final goal of the night.
Junior Eric Janssen picked up the victory as he tallied six saves in 50:00 minutes of work as back-up goalies sophomore Adian Bennardo and freshman Keith McDermott played the final 10:00 minutes of regulation.
Adelphi looks to continue to ride their winning streak when they go on the road to St. Anselm College on Saturday, April 2 for a 1:00 p.m. faceoff.
