Baseball Falls On The Road To New Haven, 3-2

The Adelphi University baseball team traveled to take on the University of New Haven this afternoon in a NE-10 match-up. The Chargers broke the 2-2 tie with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning for the 3-2 victory. New Haven improves to 10-5 and 2-0 in the league, while Adelphi drops to 10-7-1 and 0-2.

For the Panthers, junior Lucas Romeo went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while senior Trevor Thorstensen went 2-for-4 with a run scored as well. Junior Michael Carletti threw four innings, struck out two, and allowed one earned run in the no-decision.

New Haven put up two runs early, in the bottom half of the first inning, on an RBI double and single from Shane O'Connell and Jack Heary, respectively.

In the Panthers' top half of the third, graduate student Omar Velazquez sent a single up the middle which plated Romeo to get Adelphi on the board. The Panthers would even the score in the top of the seventh inning when junior Craig Matteo delivered a single through the left side, scoring Thorstensen.

In the next half inning, the Chargers would score the eventual game-winning run on a Cory Carr double to left-center.

For the Chargers, O'Connell, Heary, and Carr each finished with a hit and RBI, while Eric Peck earned the win in relief and Michael Rossi picked up the save.

The Panthers return to action tomorrow, Saturday March 26, when they host league-rival Stonehill College in a conference doubleheader beginning at noon.
