Baseball Continues Win Streak; Defeats Dominican, 7-4

The Adelphi University baseball team hosted the Chargers of Dominican College this afternoon in a non-conference contest. Adelphi had 16 hits on the afternoon en route to the 7-4 victory. Adelphi improves to 10-5-1, while Dominican drops to 3-5.

For the Panthers, senior Trevor Thorstensen went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while classmate Richard McCarren finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Senior Mike Scudero earned the win, throwing seven innings, giving up one earned run and fanning six.

Adelphi scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning on RBI singles from junior Lucas Romeo and graduate student Omar Velazquez. Sophomore Anthony Zarrella would then deliver an RBI single in the next half inning to give Adelphi a three-run lead.

After the Panthers added a run in the fourth, Dominican would come back in the fifth with a run of their own to cut the lead to 4-1. In the top half of the seventh the Chargers would cut into the lead once again with an RBI single and RBI ground out.

The Panthers would get one run back in the bottom of the seventh and follow that up with an RBI from both McCarren and junior Jamie Liebowitz in the eighth for insurance.

For the Chargers, Michael Levy Jr. went 4-for-5 with two RBI, while Tony Blake went 1-for-4 with a solo home run. On the hill, Richard Leachy took the loss, giving up four earned runs and 12 hits in six innings of work.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, March 22 when they host the University of New Haven at 3:30 in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up.
