Baseball Takes Down C.W. Post, 9-5

Boca Raton, Fla. - The Adelphi University baseball team took on C.W. Post this afternoon in Boca Raton, Florida. The Panthers proved to be too much for the Pioneers as they went on to win, 9-5. Adelphi improves to 8-5-1, while C.W. Post drops to 1-13.

For the Panthers, junior Justin Farnum went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored, while senior Richard McCarren finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Juniors Jamie Liebowitz and Craig Matteo each collected two hits and drove in three runs combined.

Freshman Stephen Bove earned his first collegiate victory, throwing six innings and striking out eight.

After taking an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Panthers blew the game wide open in the second inning by putting up six runs. The Pioneers would come back in the next inning to get on the board with one run.

Adelphi was not done offensively, as the Panthers would add two more runs to their lead with a run in both the fifth and sixth inning.

The Pioneers would threaten in the bottom of the seventh inning as they got to the Panthers' bullpen for three runs but it wasn't enough as Adelphi held on for their fourth straight victory.

For the Pioneers, Casey McKay went 2-for-5 with three RBI, while Rich Maccarone went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Rafael Martinez had a tough outing in the loss, giving up eight runs (seven earned), and striking out two in three innings of work.

The Panthers return to action on Friday, March 18, when they take on C.W. Post for their last game in Florida at 1:00 p.m.
