The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team took on Dominican (CA) University yesterday evening in a non-conference contest in San Rafael, California. Adelphi scored seven goals in the third period to help them secure the 17-10 victory. The Panthers improve to 2-1, while Dominican drops to 1-4.
For the Panthers, junior Joe Vitale scored three goals and handed out three assists, while classmates Shane Wynn and Kieran Riegel each added a four-goal, one-assist performance. Junior Eric Janssen and sophomore Adian Bennardo combined for 17 saves in the win.
Adelphi shut out the Penguins in the first period, 4-0, with three of the four goals coming in unassisted fashion. Reed Upson would score the second Dominican goal of the second period to cut the Panther lead to 5-2, but two goals from Wynn and one from Riegel gave Adelphi a 7-2 halftime advantage.
The third period was owned by the Panthers as they put up seven goals. The Panthers would get two goals each from Wynn, Riegel, and junior Danny Blau. Junior Timothy Aiello also found the back of the net in the high-scoring period.
Dominican would attempt a comeback in the final period, scoring four times with two goals coming from Emmett Faricy, but it wasn't enough as Adelphi added three scores in the period with two from Vitale.
For the Penguins, Jim Little scored three goals to go along with three assists, while Upson found the back of the net twice and added an assist. Ryan Williams took the loss in net, stopping 14 shots in 45 minutes of action.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, March 16 when they take on Mesa State in Pleasanton, California at 7:00 p.m. PT.
