Baseball Slugs Out 7-1 Victory Over Molloy

The Adelphi University baseball team took on cross-town rival Molloy College this afternoon on the campus of Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. The Panthers picked up 17 hits as a team for the 7-1 victory. Adelphi improves to 6-5-1, while Molloy drops to 6-6.

For the Panthers, senior Trevor Thorstensen went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a solo home run, while sophomore Thomas Torregrossa went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Junior Michael Carletti collected the win, striking out four and giving up one run in seven innings of work.

Adelphi put up a three-spot in the top half of the second inning on two RBI singles from junior Craig Matteo and Thorstensen, and a sacrifice bunt from junior Lucas Romeo which scored a run.

After the Panthers added a run in the third inning, they would extend their lead to 6-0 after a Torregrossa single to center which plated two.

Molloy would get on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning when Greg Walsh scored from third on a Panther error.The Panthers seventh and final run came in the next top half inning when Thorstensen delivered a solo home run.

For the Lions, Robert Inzerillo finished 2-for-4, while Walsh went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Larry Ulip took the loss on the mound, striking out eight batters and surrendering seven earned runs in eight innings of work.

The Panthers return to action tomorrow, March 15, when they take on Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida at 6:00 p.m.
