Baseball Takes Down #3 Franklin Pierce, 5-1

Lantana, Fla. - The Adelphi University baseball team took on #3 Franklin Pierce University this evening in a non-conference contest in Lantana, FLorida. Adelphi held FPU to just one run en route to the 5-1 victory. Adelphi improves to 5-5-1, while the Ravens drop to 9-1.

Senior left-hander Mike Scudero led the Panthers in the defeat over the nationally-ranked Ravens. Scudero threw a complete game, gave up seven hits, one run (unearned), and struck out 13.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning until the Panthers took a 1-0 lead. In the top half of the sixth, Franklin Pierce evened the score at 1-1, only to have Adelphi answer with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to put FPU away.

Adelphi was led offensively by junior Jamie Liebowitz and sophomore Anthony Zarrella who each went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Senior Richard McCarren went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while junior Craig Matteo finished 1-for-3 with a run scored and run driven in.

For the Ravens, Derek Ingui went 2-for-4, while Dan Kemp finished 2-for-3 with a run scored. On the mound, Joe Flynn struck out seven, surrendered 11 hits, and gave up five earned in the loss.

The Panthers return to action on Monday, March 14 when they take on cross-town rival Molloy College at 10:00 a.m.
