Women's Basketball Falls At Home To St. Rose, 54-46

The Adelphi University women's basketball team hosted the Golden Knights of The College of St. Rose this evening in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. St. Rose held the Panthers to just 19 second half points en route to the 54-46 victory. St. Rose improves to 16-6 and 12-6 in the league, while AU drops to 8-14 and 5-13.

For the Panthers, freshman Jessica Kitrys scored a team-high 14 points and collected six rebounds, while classmate Ashley O'Connell netted a career-high 13 points to go along with four rebounds.

Both teams went back and forth in the first half with the biggest lead being six points. A jumper from Kitrys gave Adelphi their first lead of the game since the opening seconds, 12-11. St. Rose answered right back to re-gain the lead after a jumper from Emily Trapp. The Golden Knights then took their biggest lead of the half, 18-12, with 10:21 left on the clock after a lay-up from Ali Johnson. Over the next three minutes the Panthers got the score to within one, 20-19, on a bucket from Kitrys. With the Panthers down four with 1:36 remaining, sophomore Samantha Breidenbach connected on a jumper to cut the Golden Knights' lead in half. Breidenbach would answer right back with a jumper with 24 seconds left to get the Panthers to within three, 30-27, headed into the half.

Just under five minutes into the second half, St. Rose took a 10-point lead, 37-27, after a bucket from Johnson. The Panthers trailed 42-29 with 14:03 on the clock and then went on a 10-0 run to get within three, 42-39, with 9:37 remaining. After the Panthers run, St. Rose would re-gain control and get their lead back to 13 at one point, securing the victory.

St. Rose shot 41.5-percent from the field, while the Panthers shot 42-percent. The Golden Knights also held the advantage on the boards 36-30.

For the Golden Knights, Johnson scored a game-high 18 points with eight rebounds, while Ashley Rath chipped in with 17 points. Amy Voelkel notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, February 12 when they travel to take on Assumption College at 1:30 p.m.
