The Adelphi women's basketball team traveled to Worcester, Massachusetts to face Northeast-10 foe Assumption College on Saturday, February 12. The Panthers were held to 28 percent shooting, while the Greyhounds hit on 48 percent of their efforts, claiming a 63-40 victory. With the loss Adelphi falls to 8-15 overall and 5-14 in the conference, while Assumption improves to 17-6 and 15-4 in the NE-10.
Adelphi was led by Jessica Kitrys was the lone Panther in double figures, scoring 12 points and adding six rebounds. Alexis Williams added eight points and five rebounds.
Assumption opened the game with a 14-4 run, taking a 10 point lead just 4:38 into the action. Adelphi would close within seven several times in the first half, but could get no closer, entering the break down 11, 32-21.
The first three and a half minutes of the second frame provided no offense, as both teams were off the mark. However, a three made foul shots from Samantha Perez pulled Adelphi within eight, 32-24 at the 16:18 mark. Assumption responded with a 12-2 run, pushing their advantage to 18, 44-26 with 12:20 left to play.
The Greyhound lead would get as large as 25, but Adelphi would also get as close as 16 but could not make any more headway, falling 63-40.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, February 16 when they travel to New Haven, Connecticut to take on Southern Connecticut State University.
