Garden City, N.Y. - On Tuesday night, November 8, the men's and women's swim teams took on the SUNY Old Westbury Panthers in a dual meet. Behind a combine 13 first place finishes, the men and women picked up their third win on the year. In victory, both teams' records move to 3-1 while SUNY Old Westbury drops to 0-1.
The women posted 1-2 finishes in eight events, cruising to the victory and were led by
Charlotte Davies and
Gabrielle Terzano. Davies completed the distance double for the second meet in a row, winning the 1000 yard freestyle (11:55.03) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:58.43), while Terzano captured first in the 200 yard individual medley (2:26.10) and the 100 yard backstroke (1:05.8).
Five other Panthers posted top finishes in their events as
Ana Galesic won the 200 yard freestyle,
Samantha Spacone took home first in the 50 yard freestyle,
Rachel Garry out touched the field in the 100 yard butterfly,
Jaclyn Dodenhoff picked up first in the 100 yard freestyle and
Brittany Stanford was the fastest in the water in the 100 yard breaststroke.
The women also turned in two strong relay performances as Terzano, Garry, Stanford and Galesic teamed up to take home victory in the 400 yard medley relay and Spacone, Davies and Stanford were joined by
Jessica Ras in the 400 freestyle relay, which Adelphi with a time of 4:34.29.
Zach Terzano and
William Gerard paced the men's team as the men also used eight 1-2 finishes to swim to the win. Gerard matched Davies, completing the distance double with wins in the 1000 yard freestyle (11:25.3) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:37.84) and Terzano was best in the field in the 100 yard freestyle (48.99) and the 200 yard freestyle (1:49.98).
Kyle Jones was also a double event winner for the Panthers, securing first in the 200 yard individual medley and the 100 yard breaststroke. Teammates Steve Gromling and
Carlos Ballon grabbed one win each as Gromling won the 100 yard butterfly and Ballon was first in the 100 yard backstroke.
The men's quartet of Jones, Gromling, Terzano and
Ryan Walpole combined to cap the meet by taking home first in the 400 yard freestyle with a time of 3:29.12.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, November 16 when they travel to Kings Point, New York to take on the Mariners of the Merchant Marine Academy. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11am.
