Men's Basketball Swats Away Yellow Jackets, 69-54

The Panthers are on a three game win streak after dropping the season opener.

Harkins posted 11 points on 3-4 from the field, 2-3 from behind the arc and 3-4 from the charity stripe.

Garden City, N.Y. - The men's basketball team played host to the Yellow Jackets of American International College earlier tonight in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Adelphi grew a nine point, first half lead into a 15 point margin at the end of 40 minutes on the strength of three players in double digit scoring. The 69-54 win puts the Panthers at 3-1, 2-1 NE-10 while the Yellow Jackets drop to 2-3, 1-2 NE-10.

AIC opened up the game with a five point lead, going ahead 9-4 in the opening 3:16. However, it would be the largest advantaged they would have throughout the remainder of the game as Robert Johnson, Bradley Simpson and Chris Ranglin all scored on the ensuing plays to give Adelphi a one point upperhand.

The lead would be exchanged on three more occasions until the Panthers turned up the heat with 7:44 left to play in the opening act. A three pointer from Richard Harkins sparked a 24-7 run to to put their counterparts back by nine points at halftime. During the run, Ranglin put down seven of his nine total points on three of four shooting from the field.

Just 4:43 into the second session, Cliff Brown joined in on the action, knocking down a trey and extending his team's lead to 11. The Yellow Jackets would crawl back to within four, courtesy of six straight points by David Campbell, but Adelphi responded with 12 unanswered points with contributions from four different players. A Harkins three ball capped the run with 7:06 remaining.

In the final five minutes, the Panthers held strong thanks to out-rebounding the Yellow Jackets 7-4 and connecting from seven of nine attempts at the charity stripe to come away with the victory.

Johnson and Simpson had 12 points apiece while Harkins added 11. The Panthers shot .489 from the field, connecting on 22 of 45 attempts while also sinking 18-22 from the free throw line.

Campbell led AIC and the game with 18 points.

The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, November 30 when they host the Golden Knights of St. Rose College in a NE-10 conference matchup. The game is scheduled for a 7:30pm start. You can watch the action live at www.aupanthers.tv.
