Garden City, N.Y. -
Former Adelphi University standout goalkeeper Thorne Holder is currently with Major League Soccer (MLS) club Philadelphia Union for their month-long pre-season training, hoping to earn a spot on the roster. Holder is the sixth former Adelphi player to be involved on the field with a MLS club, joining Gary Sullivan (Colorado Rapids) and Patrick Figueiredo (NY/NJ Redbulls) as the most recent and former MLS All-Star Chris Armas (LA Galaxy/Chicago Fire) as the most famous.
Holder was invited for the trial after completing an outstanding career at Adelphi. He spend three seasons in the brown and gold, earning two NSCAA all-region honors, three All-Atlantic Soccer Conference nods and capping his career by being named ASC Tournament Co-Defensive MVP along with teammate Mauricio Mora.
"Thorne has been an integral part of our teams success these past three years," Head Coach Carlo Acquista explained. "He adds great personality and confidence to any team at any level. We wish him the best of luck at his trial with the Union."
In addition, Holder left his name etched in the Panther record books, as he currently sits second in career shutouts with 19 and fourth in career wins at 30. Holder also occupies three of the top six spots in single season goals against average posting numbers of 0.66 (3rd), 0.70 (4th) and 0.77 (6th).
A former member of Trinidad and Tobago's under-20 National team, Holder's stint with the Union will run until February 18, at which time he is hoping to have done enough to earn an MLS contract.
