Women's Basketball Bested On The Road At Stonehill, 67-54

Easton, Mass. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team traveled to Easton, Mass. to take on Stonehill COllege this afternoon. The Skyhawks 34-24 lead was too much for AU to overcome in the second half en route to the victory, 67-54. Stonehill improves to 12-6 and 7-6 in the NE-10, while Adelphi falls to 7-10 and 4-9.

For the Panthers, freshman Jessica Kitrys scored a team-best 16 points to go along with seven rebounds, while senior Ashley Caiafa had 14 points and four assists. Junior Amanda Campusano contributed with 10 points and five boards off the bench.

The Skyhawks took their largest lead of the game with 9:36 left, 19-13, after a a lay-up from Mary Louise Dixon. Down eight with 5:33 left in the half, the Panthers would chip away and cut the lead to four, 26-22, with a bucket from Campusano. The Panthers would get two free throws from Caiafa with 3:01 on the clock to make the score 28-24, AU's last points of the half. Stonehill ended the half on a 6-0 run and took a 10-point lead into the locker room.

Stonehill came out of the half and took an early 15-point lead, 41-26, courtesy of Asia Ewing lay-up. The Panthers would fight back and cut the lead to single digits, 43-34, off a bucket from Caiafa. Adelphi would get to within seven two more times but it wasn't nearly enough as Stonehill extended their lead to 17 late in the half to secure the victory.

Both teams shot well from the field (Stonehill 45.6-percent, Adelphi 43.4-percent), while Stonehill controlled the battle on the boards 36-30 over the Panthers. The Skyhawks also turned the Panthers over 17 times.

For the Skyhawks, Kristen McWhirter led the way with a team-best 15 points, while Dixon collected a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, January 25 when they host the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University at 5:30 p.m.
