Women's Basketball Falls At Home To No. 18 Bentley, 72-47

The Adelphi University women's basketball team hosted 18th-ranked Bentley University this evening in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. The Falcons took an 11-point halftime lead and never looked back on their way to a 72-47 victory. Bentley improves to 14-2 and 11 in the league, while Adelphi falls to 7-9 and 4-8.

For the Panthers, freshman Sade Jackson scored a career-high 17 points to go along with six steals, while sophomore Samantha Breidenbach was also in double figures with 10 points and six rebounds.

The game was close throughout the first 10 minutes of action until Bentley extended their lead to 10, 20-10, with 8:26 left in the half. A jumper from sophomore Erika Cottle would cut the deficit to eight but the Falcons answered back with a bucket from Lauren Battista to go back up by 10 with 4:49 left. AU would then go on a 7-0 run to get within three, highlighted by a three-pointers from Jackson and senior Ashley Caiafa. Bentley would close the first half strong on a 8-0 run capped off by two free throws from Christina Bakolas.

Over the first 12:30 of play in the second half, Bentley opened with a 20-8 run to go up 50-27. The closest the Panthers got in the second half was 17, 55-38, with 7:43 left after a triple from Jackson. The Falcons shot 52.4-percent from the field in the second half, and went 17-of-19 from the free throw line.

Bentley held AU to shoot just 37.3-percent from the field while they shot 44-percent, and also held a big advantage on the glass, 48-18. Both teams also committed 20 turnovers each.

For the Falcons, Battista scored a game-best 21 points and added 11 rebounds, while Kim Brennan chipped in with 13 points. Shatasia Kearse also collected a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, January 22 when they travel to take on Stonehill College at 1:30 p.m.
