Volleyball Drops Two at The Golden Lions Classic

Oakdale, N.Y. - The Adelphi University volleyball team closed out play at the Golden Lions Classic on Saturday, September 4 with matches against host, Dowling and Northeast-10 opponent Pace. The Panthers dropped both matches by identical, 3-0 scores to fall to 1-2 overall.

The Panthers faced the host Golden Lions in the first match of the day and were blitzed in the first set, 25-8. However, Adelphi rallied in the second set, pushing Dowling to the limit in a, 25-23 defeat. The third and final game went much like the first, with the Panthers falling, 25-7.

Emily Dorko led the offense with eight kills, while Katie Bryson chipped in four. Heather Mau managed 18 assists as Hilary Pavels led the defense with eight digs and Alexandra Kahen and Bryson added six apiece.

In the second match of the day against Pace, Adelphi dropped a heart breaker. The Panthers narrowly lost the first and third games by identical scores of, 25-23 and pushed the Setters to extra points in the second game, as Pace slipped past, 26-24.

Dorko's coming out party continued as she registered a game-high 11 kills and Bryson played strong again with nine kills and seven digs. Pavels had a team-high 14 digs, paired with eight kills, while Kahen also reached double figures with 10 digs. Mau also posted a game-high 31 assists in the loss.

Adelphi returns to action on September 10 when they take on Minnesota State-Moorehead in the first game of the Dragon Classic in South Moorehead, Minnesota.
