Panthers Open Season With 1-1 Tie At PhilaU

The Adelphi University women's soccer team traveled to take on Philadelphia University this afternoon in its season-opener. Trailing 1-0 in the second half, senior Kim Volinski netted an unassisted goal to even the score.

The Lady Rams got on the board first, minutes before halftime, when Janine Cascio set up Trisha Sileo to give PhilaU a 1-0 halftime lead.

In the first OT neither team could manage a score, but AU was relentless under six minutes in the second OT, taking three close-range shots on goal that hit the post or crossbar.The Lady Rams held the advantage in shots, 25-24, while the Panthers held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Junior Dorothy Connolly set aside a career-best 17 shots, while Kelli Kowalewski recorded 11 saves.

The Panthers return to action on Friday, September 10 when they travel to North Andover, Mass. to take on conference opponent Merrimack College at 7:00 p.m.
