Men's Soccer Grounded by Georgetown, 2-0

Washington, DC - The Adelphi men's soccer team traveled to Washington, DC on Wednesday, September 29 to take on Big East conference member Georgetown University. The game remained scoreless for the first 40 minutes of action, but the Hoyas scored twice in the final five minutes of the first half to pull out the win, 2-0. With the loss Adelphi falls to 5-4 overall, while Georgetown improves to 3-4-1.

The Hoyas kept the pressure on the Panthers during the first half action, out shooting Adelphi, 8-1. Georgetown finally broke through in the 42nd minute Joey Dillon beat Panther goalkeeper, Thorne Holder to put the Hoyas ahead, 1-0. Ian Christianson and Steve Neumann were credited with assists on the Dillon goal.

Georgetown netted a back breaking goal just 19 seconds before the half when Neumann threw the ball in and found Tommy Muller, who headed the ball into the right corner of the Panther goal. The tally made the score, 2-0 at the half.

Adelphi tried to battle back in the second half, reversing the action and out shooting Georgetown by a margin of 10 shots, 11-1. However, despite Adelphi's best efforts and three shots apiece from Michael Aquino and Alex Kouznetsov the Panthers could not ripple the back of the Hoya goal, falling, 2-0.

Holder made two stops in the loss, both in the first half, while Matthew Brutto made four saves in the win, including three in the second frame.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, October 2 when they travel to Baltimore, Maryland for a 2:00 pm meeting with Loyola College.
