Princeton, NJ - The Adelphi University men's soccer team faced-off against the 25th ranked University of Pennsylvania in the first game of the Princeton Tournament on Friday, September 24. A very evenly played game was scoreless with less then a minute left before Adelphi netted the game winner, stunning UPenn, 1-0. With the win Adelphi improves to 5-2 overall, while the Quakers are also 5-2.
The game was played evenly throughout the entire game, with Adelphi holding a slight edge in shots, 15-14 and a two shot edge in shots on goal, 6-4.
The Quakers had chances late in the match before Adelphi capitalized on their final opportunity. Both Loukas Tasigianis and Stephen Baker had attempts on goal, as did Aaron Ross, but no one in a red and blue uniform was able to solve Adelphi keeper Thorne Holder.
However, Adelphi made their final chance count, as John Koutsounadis pushed the ball up to Mauricio Mora. Mora gathered the ball and took a strike from 30 yards out and curled it past UPenn's Ben Berg with just under 40 seconds left, giving Adelphi the 1-0 victory.
Holder made four saves, picking up his fifth win and fifth shut out of the season, while Berg collected five in the loss.
Adelphi returns to action on Sunday, September 26 in the finale of the Princeton Tournament against the host Tigers.
