The Panthers traveled to New Haven, Connecticut on Wednesday, September 22, opening their Northeast-10 play against Southern Connecticut State University. The Panthers rolled to wins in the first two games, but dropped game three, before recovering to secure the win with a, 25-23 win in game four. With the victory Adelphi improves to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the Northeast-10, while Southern Connecticut falls to 6-5 overall and 0-1 in the NE-10.
Adelphi came out hot, hitting .370 in the first game and collecting 12 kills on the way to a 25-10 game one win. The Panthers cooled off in game two, managing just nine kills, but they held the Owls to seven kills and a hitting percentage of -.119 to secure a, 2-0 lead thanks to a 25-19 win.
Southern Connecticut picked up the win in game three thanks in part to 14 kills, topping Adelphi 25-23. However, the Panthers would counter with 15 kills in game four, while the Owls could muster just nine to take home the victory, 25-23.
Hilary Pavels continued her stellar play with a 12 kill and 21 dig performance and Katie Bryson added 25 assists. Heather Mau collected 17 digs and Alexandra Kahen chipped in 14. Patawe Simms also had a strong night for the Panthers, mustering eight kills to go along with a team-high five blocks.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, September 25 with a doubleheader, taking on AIC at 1:00 pm and then Molloy at 3:00 pm at the Center for Recreation and Sport.
