The Adelphi University women's soccer team traveled to Albany, New York on Tuesday, September 21 for a Northeast-10 Conference contest against National #1 St. Rose. The Panthers allowed an early goal, but trailed by just one at the half, before the Golden Knights scored three in the second period to pull out a, 4-0 win. With the loss Adelphi falls to 2-3-1 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while St. Rose remains unbeaten at 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the NE-10.
Nicola D'Errico got St. Rose on the board in the fifth minute as she one timed a cross from Aoife Herbert into the back of the Panther net for an early, 1-0 edge. Adelphi's defense would hold up the rest of the half and Dorothy Connolly came up big, making six saves in the first to secure just a, 1-0 deficit at the intermission.
St. Rose struck again just five minutes into the half as Connolly made a stop on Nicola D'Errico's shot, but Gianna D'Errico was there to knock home the rebound. Just over 15 minutes later Herbert sent another cross into the Panther box, where Christina Cuffari redirected it into the back of the Adelphi goal, making the score, 3-0.
The Golden Knights final goal of the game came in the 81st minute of play when Jaclyn Evans scored unassisted, beating Connolly to the lower left side of the net, making the final count, 4-0.
Deanna Esposito made five saves and Susan Cowan made one as they combined to collect the win and the shutout for St. Rose, Connolly made eight stops in the loss. St. Rose held an edge in shots, 21-8, corner kicks, 5-0 and fouls, 7-4.
Adelphi returns to action on Friday, September 24 when they play host to LeMoyne at 5:00 pm on Motamed Field.
