Field Hockey Wins Third Straight; Defeats St. Anselm, 3-1

The Adelphi University field hockey team took on the Hawks of St. Anselm College this afternoon in a non-conference contest.  Adelphi took a 2-0 lead into the half which was all they needed en route to the 3-1 victory.The Panthers improve to 3-3, while the Hawks fall to 0-3.

The Panthers got on the board early, 5:11 in, when junior Julianne Gerbino set up classmate Brittany Kinsley for the early lead. With just under 12 minutes till halftime, Kinsley found sophomore Cassie Cabral who found the back of the net to give the Panthers a two-goal lead. 

Adelphi held the advantage in shots (5-4) and penalty corners (6-4) in the first half.

AU would then extend their lead to 3-0 when Gerbino handed out her second assist of the game when she assisted on junior Crystal Gray's goal. The Hawks would get on the board in the 66th minute when Sara Griffin scored off an assist from Maura Hurley, but it wasn't enough as the Panthers held on for the win.

The Panthers out shot the Hawks, 16-8, and also had the edge in penalty corners, 13-8. Lucia Vigliotti recorded five saves in net, while Megan Sullivan stopped six shots in the loss. 

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, September 25 when they host Franklin Pierce University at noon.
