Men's Soccer Blanks Iona, 2-0

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's soccer team played host to Iona College in the final game of a four game home stand on Tuesday, September 14. Adelphi scored one goal early and then closed the door with a late goal, sealing a 2-0 victory. With the win Adelphi improves to 3-2 overall, while Iona falls to 1-2.

Striker Issa Tall opened the scoring as he found the back of the Iona net in the first 10 minutes of action. Tall collected the ball and cut through two Gael defenders and chipped it past Iona keeper, Jesse Fullerton into the lower left corner of the goal, giving Adelphi the early, 1-0 lead.

Both sides struggled to gain control the remainder of the game, until Adelphi scored again late, shutting the door. The Panthers were awarded a penalty kick in the 82nd minute, which Alex Kouznetsov converted, essentially ended the contest.

Thorne Holder picked up his third clean sheet of the season, making four saves in the process, while Fullerton made two stops in the loss.

Both team managed seven shots during play, with Adelphi getting the slight edge in corner kicks, 3-2. The Panthers were also whistled for more fouls during play, 10-6.

Adelphi returns to action on Sunday, September 19 when they travel to Lexington, Virginia for a 1:00 pm meeting with VMI.
