The Adelphi University field hockey team hosted the Greyhounds of Assumption College this afternoon in a non-conference contest on Motamed Field. The Panthers scored early and never looked back en route to the 7-0 win. The Panthers improve to 1-3, while Assumption drops to 0-5.
The Panthers got on the board early when junior Julianne Gerbino found classmate Jeanette Heimerle for the score off a penalty corner, 7:38 into the contest. Gerbino would be involved in the next two goals as she scored in unassisted fashion at 12:40, followed by assisting junior Jessica Mulhern's first goal of the season, just under six minutes later.
AU would hold the advantage in shots (13-1) and penalty corners (4-0) in the first half.
Just over five minutes into the second half, senior Natasha Pedzik sent a crossing pass in front of the net where Gerbino netted her second score of the game. The Panthers would then get a goal each from sophomore Erin Grekin, and juniors Crystal Gray and Kelly Gorman, their first goals of the season.
Adelphi ended the game with 21 shots (16 on goal), while the Greyhounds could only get off three, that all went wide. The Panthers also had nine penalty corners, and scored on two of them.
Kristen Manchester set aside nine shots in 55:38 of action in the loss, while all three Panther goalkeepers saw time in net in the win.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, September 18 when they travel to take on Bentley University at 1:00 p.m.
