The Adelphi University field hockey team took on East Stroudsburg University this afternoon in a non-conference contest. The Warriors took a 1-0 lead into the half which was all they needed as they defeated the Panthers, 4-0. ESU improves to 3-0, while Adelphi drops on 0-3.
The Warriors opened the scoring 2:05 into the contest when Brittany Kocis assisted on Jessica Frantz's first goal of the game off a penalty corner. ESU fired off six shots in the first half, while Adelphi only mustered off two. The Warriors also held a big advantage in penalty corners in the first half over AU, 9-2.
A little more than six minutes into the second half, Frantz found the back of the net for the second time off a feed from Mallory Pope. ESU would keep applying the pressure as they scored their third and fourth goals of the game under six minutes apart.
Kocis would notch her second assist of the afternoon, also on another penalty corner, when she set up Kayla Cilenti for the score. Frantz would the record her third tally of the contest with an unassisted goal at 53:05.
The Warriors would get off 10 more shots than Adelphi (17-7) and also finished the game with a 12-8 advantage in penalty corners.
Maureen Ordnung stopped three shots in 65:30 of action, while sophomore Kristine Puzio and junior Lucia Vigliotti combined to make five saves.
The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, September 14 when they host Assumption College at 4:00 p.m. on Motamed Field.
