Garden City, N.Y. -

The Adelphi University women's soccer team hosted the Skyhawks of Stonehill College this afternoon on Motamed Field. Trailing 1-0 at the half, the Panthers netted two second half scores en route to the 2-1 victory. Adelphi improves to 1-1-1 and 1-1 in the Northeast-10, while Stonehill drops to 3-2 and 2-1 in the league.

Stonehill would get on the board first, 19:36 into the contest, when Kelsey Mahoney sent a pass from midfield to Kristie St. Martin for her seventh goal of the season, giving the Skyhawks a 1-0 lead. The Panthers controlled possession throughout the first half but could not find the back of the net.

AU held a 6-4 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks in the first half.

The Panthers would come out strong in the second half and evened the score at 1-1 when sophomore Kaitlin Monteith sent a cross in front of the goal where senior Kim Volinski beat Sarah Hickey for the score. The goal was Voinski's third of the season.

Adelphi would have two more opportunities in the 60th minutes but Hickey came up with back-to-back diving stops to keep the score even. At the 76-minute mark, Allison Gronenthal scored the eventual game-winner off the rebound of a Hickey save.

The Panthers would end the game with a 14-9 advantage in shots, and both teams got off six corner kicks. Junior Dorothy Connolly stopped five shots in the win, while Hickey set aside six shots.

The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, September 15 when they travel to Springfield, Mass. to take on American International College at 7:00 p.m.
