Bloomsburg, Pa. -
The Adelphi University field hockey team traveled to take on Bloomsburg University, the defending National Champions, this afternoon. The Huskies took a 2-0 halftime lead which was all they needed en route to the 3-1 victory. Bloomsburg remains perfect at 3-0, while the Panthers fall to 0-2 on the young season.
The Huskies got on the board early, 7:43 into the contest, when Amanda Riley netted her third goal of the season. Bloomsburg would then add one more score right before the end of the first half when Riley assisted on Alexis Weber's second score of the season.
Junior Julianne Gerbino would cut Bloomsburg's lead in half when she found the back of the net for the first time this season. Ashley Miller would add an insurance goal on a rebound after a kick save from junior Lucia Vigliotti, giving the Huskies their third and final score.
BU fired off 20 shots to Adelphi's three, and also held the advantage in penalty corners, 15-6. Meghan Hollenbach stopped one shot in the victory, while Vigliotti set aside nine in the loss.
The Panthers return to action tomorrow as they travel to take on East Stroudsburg University at 1:00 p.m.
