Sophomore Claire Petersen tallied six goals and four assists to lead the Adelphi University women's lacrosse team to a 24-6 win in semi-final action of the Northeast-10 Championship this afternoon on Competition Field. The Panthers improve to 15-1 as they advanced to tomorrow's final, while the Penmen fall to 9-8.
Sophomore Marissa Mills put the Panthers on board at 28:58, but Sara Hablich evened the scored on a free position shot at 26:33. Junior Elizabeth Fey made it 2-1 on a feed from Petersen, followed by a free position goal by junior Kaitlyn Carter, 3-1. The Penmen's Jade Antonangeli rattled off back to back goals to even the score, 3-3 at 22:56. Emily Mongeau gave SNHU the lead at 22:18. But then it was all Adelphi as Petersen's goal at 18:44 sparked a 12-0 run, capped by freshman Demmianne Cook's third goal of the half, to give the host a 16-4 lead at intermission.
The rally continued in the second half with three more goals, capped by sophomore Erica Devito's third goal of the day, 20-4, with 19:32 remaining. Maura Murphy found the back of the net for SNHU at 17:56. Carter scored her fourth goal of the game on an assist from Petersen at 17:02, who also helped freshman Sara Sangiorgio score at 15:00. Senior Allison Tumulty teamed with sophomore Alison Staudt at 13:20. Senior Corinne Pingitore scored at 12:47 also from Staudt to make it 24-5. Halbich made it 24-6 on a free position goal at 1:16.
Senior Caitlin Fitzpatrick made six saves in 42:16 to record the win, with freshman Cathryn Bonitz making three saves in relief. Hannah Moriarty had 13 saves for the Penmen.
The Panthers will take on the Stonehill in tomorrow's final. The Skyhawks topped the Merrimack Warriors, 15-8, in the second semi-final contest.
